Lyle and Tammy Woodrum, the welcoming innkeepers and owners of the Davie School Inn, have moved 17 times over their 40+ years of marriage. Their journey has taken them across the U.S.—living in states like Texas, Washington, Oregon, and now Illinois—as well as abroad in India!
We recently had the pleasure of visiting them and hearing firsthand about their amazing life experiences while exploring the beautiful and historic Davie School Inn.
Their love story began when Lyle was in the Marines. Tammy, the sister of one of his fellow Marines, first spoke with Lyle over the phone when he called to give her directions. That phone call sparked a connection, and eventually, they fell in love, got married, and raised two sons together.
Both Lyle and Tammy found success in the corporate world—Lyle in IT and Tammy in HR. Their careers allowed them to provide for their family while experiencing life in many different places. Eventually, they felt the pull toward something new and began dreaming of owning a Bed and Breakfast. After visiting B&Bs across the country, they discovered the Davie School Inn right here in Anna, Illinois. The charm and history of the building, paired with the kindness of the local community, sealed the deal.
Since taking over the Inn, Lyle and Tammy have preserved its historical charm while adding their own personal, meaningful touches. One room is adorned with décor from their time in India. Every room includes at least one hummingbird—some gifted by guests, friends, or family—adding a special and whimsical touch. Each classroom-turned-suite reflects a theme, such as “Science” or “Math,” with some former teachers even returning to stay in the rooms where they once taught!
The accommodations are immaculate and thoughtfully equipped: full baths, soft linens, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and dishes. Lyle and Tammy go above and beyond, aiming to anticipate every guest’s need. Their ultimate hope is that visitors not only enjoy the beauty and comfort of the Inn but leave feeling like family—not just guests. It’s no surprise many people return time and time again!
When we visited, we were treated with the same warmth. Tammy and Lyle prepared a delicious breakfast, and we enjoyed heartfelt conversations as we shared stories and laughs. They also encouraged our students to talk about their own businesses before giving us a wonderful tour of the Inn.
Thank you, Lyle and Tammy, for your time, your hospitality, and for creating such a special place in our community. We’re so grateful for your generosity and for sharing your journey with us!
